BATON ROUGE – The LSU volleyball team took down Alabama in four sets Sunday afternoon in the Maravich Center for its fourth straight victory. The Tigers defeated Alabama by scores of 22-25, 25-22, 27-25 and 26-24.

The Tigers were led by freshman Taylor Bannister, who finished with 21 kills. Sophomore Milan Stokes put together a career-high 19 kills and a .417 hitting percentage. For the match, the Tigers had five with double-digit digs, including a career-high 28 digs from freshman Raigen Cianciulli.

Fran’s Final Thoughts
Opening statement…
“One of the goals of the match was to play clean. Statistically, the match shouldn’t have been as close as it was, but we were giving away so many points on our errors. We were really poor despite our worst serving night of the year. Way too many service errors without aces. I’ll take a one-to-one ratio, but we had three aces and 10 errors and that’s just absolutely backwards. You give away 10 points from behind the line it can be disastrous for you. The nice part about that is we were able to come through and win the match. This team is, I continue to say it, they’re resilient. They believe.”

On making adjustments after losing the first set…
“Our ball control wasn’t very good. I think we missed fewer serves throughout the rest of the match. Our passing settled in. I think the star of the show is Milan (Stokes) coming in for Toni (Rodriguez). She got on fire early and she created some great opportunities for us and she scored. You come off the bench in a role like she has, you know, that’s a pretty special performance by Milan.”

Opening Set
The Tigers had an 11-10 lead but Alabama went on an 8-0 run to take a 18-10 lead. The Tigers fought back and brought themselves within three, 22-19 and forced Alabama to a timeout. LSU put together two straight points to come within two, 24-22, but Alabama claimed the first set, 25-22.

Set Two

LSU opened the second set on a 4-1 run. The Tigers strung together four straight points to take an 11-9 lead. The set went point-for-point until the Tigers went on a 5-0 run to take a 22-19 lead. The Tigers pushed through to get the final three points which included Alabama serving out of bounds, giving the second set to the Tigers, 25-22. The Tigers outhit Alabama .316 to .231.

Set Three
In a set that was tied 12 times and had seven lead changes, the Tigers came back from a 17-13 deficit to rally for a 9-3 run taking a 22-20 lead. The two teams battled it out the rest of the way, trading points. LSU put together three straight points to claim the third set, 27-25. For the set, the Tigers once again outhit Alabama .235 to .167.

Set Four

The Tigers got out to a 6-2 lead but Alabama worked its way back to tie the set up 10-10. The two teams battled and traded points the rest of the way. The Tigers went up 24-23 but Alabama tied it up 24-24. Back-to-back kills by Stokes gave the Tigers the victory.
