NASHVILLE, Tenn. – LSU men’s tennis junior Nikola Samardzic and sophomore Rafael Wagner secured singles victories Sunday morning on the final day of the Commodore Scramble at the Currey Tennis Center.
The Tigers will have a two-week break before hosting in the ITA Southern Regional from October 19-23 at the LSU Tennis Complex.
“It was a good tournament,” co-head coach Chris Brandi said. “Our guys are a little banged up, but we continued to compete at the level that we want. We hoped that we would have pulled out a few more wins today, but the guys did a nice job this weekend. We have a lot to work on individually and as a team, and we will continue to try to get better heading into the ITA regional.”
After falling behind early, 3-6, Samardzic bounced back with a 6-2, 12-10 sets to record a win against Furman’s Ivan Mitric on the final day of play.
Wagner earned a final round straight-set consolation win against Louisville’s Federico Gomez, 6-3, 6-1.
In his final match of the Commodore Scramble, freshman Stewart Block fell in straight 6-2 sets to Vanderbilt senior Tate Allwardt.
Senior Gabor Csonka retired due to injury during the second set of his contest against Louisville’s George Hedley. The final score of the match was 7-5, 1-0, ret.
