NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After securing wins in the second round of singles, LSU men’s tennis players Gabor Csonka and Rafael Wagner advanced to the semifinals Saturday afternoon in Day 2 of the Commodore Scramble at the Currey Tennis Center.

The Tigers continue in Day 3 of the Commodore Scramble beginning at 10 a.m. CT with all four players competing in the final round of consolation singles play.

Brandi’s Corner
“We had a great start to the day, then we had a tough afternoon,” co-head coach Chris Brandi said. “We ran into a few good players who played too well. Everyone feels like they learned a lot about what we need to work on specifically, so we feel good heading into the last day of play tomorrow. Even though we did not have the afternoon that we wanted, it is certainly a positive to have two guys play in the semifinals.”

Singles Action- Draw A
The Tigers carried momentum into Saturday’s second round of singles play as both Csonka and Wagner recorded straight-set wins to advance to the Draw A semifinals. Csonka defeated Lipscomb’s Alejandro Manzanares, 6-4, 7-5, and Wagner secured a 6-3, 6-4 win against Vanderbilt’s Panu Virtanen.

In the semifinals of Draw A, Wagner dropped a 7-6(5), 6-1 contest to Vanderbilt’s Billy Rowe, and Csonka fell to Vanderbilt’s Daniel Valent, 6-2, 3-0, ret.

Singles Action- Draw B
Freshman Stewart Block secured his first career singles win with a 6-1, 7-6(6) victory against Louisville’s Frederik Moe.

Nikola Samardzic dropped his round two match to Vanderbilt’s George Harwell after forcing a third set, 6-0, 3-6, 7-5.

In round three, Samardzic rebounded to defeat Auburn’s Alex Rushin, 6-3, 6-3, and after securing the first set handily, Block dropped his match to Auburn’s Brandon Laubser, 1-6, 6-1, 7-6(1).
