LEXINGTON, Ky. – Midfielder Gina Crosetti opened the scoring for the hosts in the 62nd minute and forward Sophie Babo followed with two goals just three minutes apart as the LSU Tigers suffered a 3-0 setback to the Kentucky Wildcats on a chilly Friday night at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex.

The Tigers (7-2-2, 0-2-2 SEC) saw their two-match unbeaten run in Southeastern Conference play snapped Friday with their first defeat to the Wildcats (6-7, 1-3) in three years since the 2014 regular season.

Crosetti found the breakthrough with her first goal of the season just past the hour mark when she swept home a square ball by forward Miranda Jimenez off the initial centering pass by forward Foster Ignoffo. It was a goal that sparked an offensive outbreak for the Wildcats as Babo followed with her first of the night with a shot from the top of the both in the 65th minute before adding her second with another strike from distance in the 68th minute for her first two goals of the season.

Freshman midfielder Lucy Parker provided LSU with its best opportunities of the night as she was twice denied by Kentucky goalkeeper Evangeline Soucie with free kicks from the edge of the area.

Parker came close to opening the scoring in the 24th minute of the first half when she lined up her free kick after senior Zoe Higgins drew a foul 20 yards in front of goal. Soucie snared Parker’s curling effort on her near post to keep the match scoreless. That’s where it remained into the 55th minute when Parker was again denied from 25 yards by Soucie’s biggest save of the night with a diving stop to her right for a corner kick.

After taking Sunday afternoon off, LSU returns to Baton Rouge next Thursday, Oct. 5, to play host to the Georgia Bulldogs with kickoff set for 6 p.m. CT at the LSU Soccer Stadium. The Tigers follow with a trip to Oxford, Mississippi, on Sunday, Oct. 8, where they face off against the Ole Miss Rebels at 2 p.m. CT at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium Both matches will stream live on the SEC Network+.
