NEWPORT, R.I. --- LSU women’s tennis junior Jessica Golovin picked up the highest-ranked victory of her career by defeating the fourth-ranked player in the nation, UNC’s Sara Daavettila, at the International Tennis Hall of Fame Saturday.

Golovin defeated the reigning ACC Freshman of the Year in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, advancing to the consolation finals on Sunday where she will face Princeton’s Stephanie Schrage.

This marks the third top-30 victory of Golovin’s career, with her previous best coming against former teammate Joana Valle Costa, ranked No. 20 at the time, in the semifinals of the ITA Southern Regional in 2015.

Freshman Eden Richardson also picked up a ranked win on the second day of competition, defeating No. 42 Alexa Graham of North Carolina 6-4, 6-3. Richardson’s win over the Tarheel sophomore advanced her to the final round of her flight where she will face off against No. 41 Maria Kononova of North Texas.

Kennan Johnson picked up her first singles victory of the tournament Saturday, defeating Princeton’s Gaby Pollner and landing in the consolation finals on Sunday.

At the Duke James Bonk Invite, freshman Elyse Lavender continued her tear through the competition, taking down Asuka Kawai from Illinois in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

Lavender will represent LSU in the final round of singles play against No. 103 Kenya Jones of Georgia Tech Sunday.
