The beginning of the fall semester is my favorite time of year. It's when thousands of students take their first steps in a new and exciting chapter in their lives. And there is no better place in America to begin that journey than LSU.

Fall is also when our newest student-athletes begin their pursuit of a great education and college experience along with the highest level of competitive amateur athletics. It's a tall order and it's why we at LSU Athletics are here – to support their quest for excellence in all things.

Excellence is the mission. It's why we are constantly evolving, growing and finding ways to get better every day. It is why we are steadfast in how we support our student-athletes in the classroom, in the community and on the field. It's why we have brought to LSU the best group of coaches in collegiate athletics. It is why we are constantly improving our facilities. And it's why we hold ourselves to a higher standard and work tirelessly to give our fans something to be proud of at all times.

So, after a season in which Tiger fans have seen some changes at LSU, the beginning of fall is a perfect time to celebrate what's ahead.

The pursuit of excellence is certainly something head football Coach Ed Orgeron embodies. This offseason has been the most active and relentless I have seen at LSU football. Not only has Coach O delivered with another great recruiting class, he has also put in place the best staff in America. Top-tier talent with tremendous character and great coaching is a recipe for good things ahead. The energy level and excitement is at an all-time high and the entire LSU family will be ready to roar in the Advocare Texas Kickoff game in Houston against BYU Sept. 2. There are still tickets available and we want to make sure we pack NRG Stadium with purple and gold.

Evolving and improving includes new and unique experiences for our fans too. This year, we have unveiled our Skyline Club as yet another way for Tiger fans to have a great game-day experience. Starting at a more affordable price point, the club allows for incredible views of the game along with all you can eat catered food as well as beer and wine for purchase. It's a new and unique perspective on premium seating for college football and it's something I believe our fans are going to love.

And just in time for fall sports, Mike the Tiger VII was introduced this morning to his newly renovated and modern habitat. Thanks to all of the private donors who helped make this happen.

Football is synonymous with fall in Baton Rouge, but it's far from the only opportunity for Tiger fans to support our student-athletes.

Soccer fans can “Geaux Free!” to each of LSU's 10 home matches during the 2017 regular season as admission is absolutely free once again this fall, compliments of The Advocate. Head Coach Brian Lee has his Tigers poised for great things and the in-game experience at LSU Soccer Stadium is full of energy and a perfect place for families.

The LSU volleyball squad under Head Coach Fran Flory is also a must-see for the Tiger faithful with free admission all season. Her squad looks to make waves in the SEC and will be the first to compete in the Maravich Center under the brand new and largest center-hung video board in the nation.

As always, it's a great time to be a Tiger and it's an honor for me to serve this great university. I want to thank each of you, the best fans in America, for all your support.

Once again, welcome to all the new members of the LSU family and Geaux Tigers!

Joe
