TRIESTE, Italy – After a couple of days of travel and seeing the sites, the LSU women’s basketball team now must get ready for its second exhibition game Thursday night in this port city against Muggia Basketball Club.
The game is set for 8 p.m. local time, 1 p.m. Baton Rouge time and is the second of three games the Lady Tigers are playing on this exhibition tour. This will be the first of three games that Muggia will play against U.S. women’s college teams as they will also face Utah and San Francisco later in the week.
The Tiger staff and players will take part in a pregame youth clinic.
LSU opened the tour in Rome and scored a 76-40 win on Sunday over an Italian All-Star team.
From there the team traveled by bus on Monday, stopping in Siena for a tour and then going on to Florence where they spent Monday and Tuesday night. Wednesday the team and official party bussed to Tronchetto Marina where they were transferred by boat to the Piazza San Marco Square in Venice.
After lunch and visiting many of the places to see in Venice, the team was again on boats back to the Marina where they traveled on to Trieste for Thursday’s game.
Coach Nikki Fargas will be looking for more of the same play that she saw in the win over the All-Stars in which the Lady Tigers were able to get out to a 51-20 halftime advantage.
Junior Chloe Jackson led LSU with 17 points, while sophomore Ayana Mitchell just missed a double double with 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Senior guard Raigyne Moncrief-Louis posted 14 points, six rebounds and a team high four steals on an afternoon when the Lady Tigers were able to get 15 steals.
“We got a lot of different combinations in there,” said Coach Fargas. “We did meet our defensive goal. We want to be that team that turns people over 30-plus times and coverts those deflections into turnovers. I thought we did some good things offensively as well. We had some good looks on the offensive glass.”
Friday, the team will travel to Milan with a stop in Verona for lunch and exploring the city with the final game of the tour on Saturday night against the FSG Academy of Holland. The team will return to Baton Rouge on Sunday.
