Men's Tennis Uses Momentum to Roll Past Jackson St.

BATON ROUGE – After clinching its match against SEC foe No. 31 Ole Miss, the LSU men’s tennis team used momentum to sweep a doubleheader against Jackson State, 7-0, 4-0, Sunday evening at the LSU Tennis Complex.

With the wins, the Tigers improve to 8-14 on the season.

“With the situation that we were in, being down to six healthy players, today, it was really important that we stayed focused, and they all did a great job of making their matches as efficient as possible,” head coach Jeff Brown said. “We were able to keep our confidence up after a big win against Ole Miss.”

MATCH ONE

Doubles Point
The Tigers took the early 1-0 lead entering into singles play. Julian Saborio and Gabor Csonka blanked Fritz Jacobs and Ryan Swainer, 6-0, on court one, and Agie Moreno and Eric Samuelsson took a 6-4 win against Styliano Gknotsaris and Vishu Prasad on court three.

Singles Results
Samardzic grabbed a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Jacobs on court three as LSU jumped out to the 2-0 lead.

On court six, Samuelsson notched consecutive 6-1 sets against Vishu to give the Tigers the 3-0 lead.

The Tigers clinched the match with Csonka’s straight set, 6-1, 6-1 win on court two against Joan Sanson.

Julian Saborio added to the LSU lead after defeating Stylianos Gkontsaris, 7-5, 6-1 on court four.

With the 5-0 lead, Agie Moreno defeated Federico Medeita Ruiz, 6-2, 6-2 on court five.

The Tigers capped the 7-0 win against Jackson State with a 7-5, 7-5 victory on court one as Justin Butsch defeated Alawai Andrey.

MATCH TWO

Doubles Point
LSU carried its momentum from the first match into its doubles point. On court three, Butsch and Samardzic defeated Gkontsarias and Prasad, 6-1. Csonka and Saborio captured the doubles point on court two with a 6-4 win against Andrey and Ruiz.

Singles Results
Butsch gave the Tigers the 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Jacobs on the second court.
Samuelsson notched his third win of the day after defeating Swainer on court five, 6-0, 6-1.

The Tigers clinched the match as Nikola Samardzic swept Gkontsaris in consecutive 6-2 sets to give LSU the 4-0 win.
