Beach Volleyball Sweeps GSU Diggin' Duals

ATLANTA- For the third consecutive week, the No. 7 LSU beach volleyball team (14-5) swept its slate of weekend matches, finishing off UAB and Austin Peay by scores of 5-0 Sunday at the GSU Complex to complete the sweep of the GSU Diggin’ Duals tournament.
In all, LSU was dominant both offensively and defensively, taking three of its four matches by a score of 5-0, outscoring its opponents by an impressive score of 18-2 over the weekend.
The team will return to action next weekend for the Houston Baptist Invitational in Houston, Texas at the Third Coast Volleyball courts on Saturday and Sunday.
“We had a great weekend. The team played hard, played together as a group and executed really well. We got wins from every member of the team this weekend, and everyone played really well,” said head coach Russell Brock.
In the first match against UAB, No. 4 pair Cati Leak and Maddie Ligon won in straight sets 21-15, 21-8 to tally the first point for LSU. At the five, Megan Davenport and Callan Molle also took their match in straights by a score of 21-17, 22-20 as LSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Tigers added to their advantage, going up 3-0 after freshman duo Claire Coppola and took their match in two sets on court one by a score of 21-13, 21-14. No. 3 tandem Katie Lindelow and Olivia Powers worked a two-setter for the Lady Tigers fourth point of the match at 21-17, 21-16.
In the second match against Austin Peay, Powers and Taylor Bradley picked up a point in two sets by a score of 21-17, 21-10 on court four. At the five, Davenport and Jeni Clark garnered LSU’s second point with another win in straights at 21-10, 21-13.
On court two, Allen and Kessler sealed the match for the Lady Tigers after taking their match in two sets, 21-12, 21-11. Nuss and Coppola dominated their match in straight sets at the one, compiling a 21-5, 21-8 victory at the one for LSU’s fourth point. Lindelow and Ligon wrapped up the tournament on court three, finishing off Austin Peay with a 21-9, 21-5 victory in two sets, lifting LSU to the 5-0 win.
After taking all four of their matches in straight sets over the weekend, Coppola and Nuss improved their record to 16-3 on the season to lead the way for the team. The duo has also collected seven wins against ranked opponents. At the four, Leak and Ligon tallied three wins over the weekend to pick up their 11th win this season.
No. 3 pair Lindelow and Powers earned two wins in three matches over the weekend and have won 12 of their last 13 matches this year.
Molle and Davenport also secured their fourth win together this season that includes wins over No. 9 Stetson, No. 1 USC, No. 10 Georgia State and UAB. A sophomore from Metairie, Louisiana, Davenport has been dominant on the year, securing a point in 26 of her last 29 matches dating back to last season.
“Clearly, we are on a good run right now, but we aren’t satisfied,” added Brock. “We know we have to get better. Next weekend will be another tough test, and we still have work to do and goals to reach. I know this group is ready to keep pushing.”
