BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 10 LSU softball team defeated the ULM Warhawks 9-1 in five innings Tuesday night at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge.
The Tigers (28-7) produced nine runs on nine hits in the win over the Warhawks (19-13), as the LSU offense scored five runs in the first two innings, while getting four more in the fifth to earn the team’s 12th run rule victory of the season.

Maribeth Gorsuch (3-1) earned the victory in the circle, allowing one run on three hits in the five-inning affair. After ULM opened the game by scoring a run in the first, the freshman settled down and ended up just tossing 75 total pitches to earn the victory.
The Warhawks would end up using three total pitchers in the contest, with starter Paige Porter (3-2) suffering the loss as she allowed four runs on four hits in just an inning of work. Casey Waterman pitched the bulk of the innings with three, but she and Jessie Watts combined for the eight walks, five hits and five runs.
The Game Turned When…
After conceding a first-inning run to the visitors, Griggs opened the LSU first with a single to right. A ULM error at second put two LSU runners on base, with a fielder’s choice putting runners at the corners. Allie Walljasper hit a deep enough fly to right to score Griggs from third to tie the game at 1-1. Sydney Springfield doubled to center to put two in scoring position, as Quinn doubled to bring in both to make it 3-1. Serrett then tripled to right center to bring in Quinn for the final run of the frame to make it 4-1.

Head Coach Beth Torina on the quick start on offense…
“I thought they did a good job. Going from pitcher to pitcher can be challenging and I thought that they made good adjustments all night long.”
Maribeth Gorsuch on earning her third win of the season…
“I had a rocky start in the past few games. Today I went out there and did what I know how to do. I trusted Coach Torina and Taylor Satchell did a really good job behind the plate today.”
Sahvanna Jaquish on the team’s penchant for getting extra-base hits with runners on…
“We love gappers and big hits. I think that batters before us in the lineup are getting on base and doing their job for us to be able to score them.”
LSU will close out its eight-game home stand this weekend, hosting the Mississippi State Bulldogs in a three-game SEC series beginning Friday.
