Softball Opens Home Stand With Nicholls Tuesday
BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 13 LSU softball team opens an eight-game home string with the Nicholls Colonels Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge.
The game will be streamed live online via SEC Network+ on the WatchESPN and WatchESPN app. Lyn Rollins and Yvette Girouard will be on the call from Tiger Park, with Patrick Wright calling the game on the radio home for LSU softball on Talk 107.3 FM and for free at LSUsports.net/live and the LSU app.
The Tigers come into the non-conference clash against the Colonels with a 23-7 overall record after going 4-1 in Kansas over the weekend. LSU earned victories over Wichita State, Omaha, Kansas and Southeast Missouri State, with the only loss coming against Tulsa in the Rock Chalk Challenge.
LSU continued to swing a hot bat over the week, outhitting all five opponents 48-17, finishing with a hitting clip of .329, and outscoring the group 28-9. The Tigers had double digit hits in four of the five games, while having no fewer than five in any contest last weekend.
Continuing to lead LSU at the plate is senior Bailey Landry, whose .529 average is fourth nationally and 54 total hits leading the country. Both marks are tops in the Southeastern Conference as Landry had 10 hits over the weekend to lead the LSU offense, as she is currently on a 17-game hitting streak which is the team season high and four away from tying her own school record of 21 she set back in 2015.
Of the seven home runs hit over the course of the team’s time in Kansas, freshman Sydney Springfield led the lot with three, including hitting two in the same game against the Jayhawks and driving in six in one game alone. Her first was the biggest as the Tigers came back to tie the Shockers to go to extras, with her solo home run in the eighth proving to be the game-winner.
Allie Walljasper was strong in the circle and at the plate for LSU over the weekend, inching closer to the double figure win total in the circle as she went 2-0 and did not allow a single run to cross the plate in 11.1 total innings of work to give her nine wins for the year. At the plate she had a hit in all four games she played in, smashing her first home run of the year against SEMO.
Carley Hoover has the team’s best ERA at 1.11, with 94 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .129.
Nicholls comes into the game as one of the top teams in the Southland Conference with a 19-10 overall record and 5-1 league mark. The Colonels are second overall in the league behind McNeese and Lamar, while the 19 wins are tied with the Cowgirls for the most among all league teams.
In the only meeting between the two teams last season, LSU earned a 2-0 win over Nicholls in Baton Rouge.

On her thoughts from the weekend in Kansas…
“We were definitely faced with some adversity and came back from it. I think we actually came back from the dead in the Wichita State game. We showed a lot of fight and did some good things. Wished we could have competed better against Tulsa. They threw a really good game against us. There were some good things, some people had some good moments and there are some things that we still need to clean up.”
On being back in Tiger Park…
“It is so nice to be back in Tiger Park. That’s the icing on the cake of this whole trip to Kansas is that we’re finally back and get a pretty good stretch of games here at home. It’s great for so many reasons to get our team back in a consistent routine back in the weight room, at practice and with our families. All of those things are huge. And of course, who wouldn’t want to play in front of the Tiger fans. That’s a great thing too.”
