Notes on the Tigers
The Tigers won four of five games last week, including a three-game sweep of Georgia to open Southeastern Conference play … LSU defeated the Bulldogs, 22-9, on Friday night, and the 22 runs represented the most scored by LSU in an SEC game since the Tigers defeated Arkansas, 27-6, on March 22, 1998, in Baton Rouge … sophomore leftfielder Antoine Duplantis enjoyed a remarkable week, batting .425 (10-for-23) in five games with two doubles, one homer, 14 RBI, seven runs and a .536 on-base percentage … in LSU’s three-game SEC series sweep of Georgia, Duplantis batted .615 (8-for-13) with one double, one homer, 10 RBI, six runs and a .688 on-base percentage … he set the LSU single-game record for hits on Friday night versus UGA when he went 6-for-6 at the plate with one double and a career-high seven RBI … in Game 2 of the Georgia series on Saturday, Duplantis launched a solo homer in the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie before extending the Tigers’ lead in the fifth to 4-1 with a bases-loaded, two-RBI single on a 3-2 count after fouling off several pitches … Duplantis is hitting .375 (33-for-88) this season with four doubles, two triples, one homer, 21 runs, eight steals and 28 RBI … senior shortstop Kramer Robertson batted .636 (7-for-11) in the Georgia series with three doubles, two RBI and 10 runs scored … Robertson tied the LSU single-game record for doubles with three in Friday night’s game … senior left-hander Jared Poche' extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 32 on Saturday before finally giving up his first run this season on a solo homer by Georgia leftfielder Keegan McGovern in the fourth inning … the home run, however, was the only run that Poche’ allowed in his seven-inning outing as he limited the Bulldogs to seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts in a 5-1 win … Poche’ improved to 5-0 this season and earned his 32nd LSU career win; he is only six wins shy of tying the all-time school record for pitching victories … his streak of 32 straight scoreless innings in one season is the second-longest at LSU, trailing only the 44.2 consecutive scoreless frames fired by Ben McDonald in 1989 … in 36 innings this season, Poche’ has a 0.25 ERA, having allowed just one run while recording four walks and 23 strikeouts … freshman right-hander Eric Walker defeated Georgia in his SEC debut on Sunday by limiting the Bulldogs to three runs on five hits in six innings with no walks and a career-best eight strikeouts … Walker fired a career-high 108 pitches in the outing and helped clinch a three-game series sweep for the Tigers over Georgia … Walker is 3-0 this season with a 2.67 ERA in 27 innings, recording five walks and 30 strikeouts.
