AUBURN, Ala. – LSU senior Sahvanna Jaquish set the program’s career RBI mark, while junior pitcher Carley Hoover fired a three-hit shutout as the No. 12 Tigers run-ruled the No. 2 Auburn Tigers in the second game of the series, 8-0, Sunday in the first game of a doubleheader at Jane B. Moore Field.

Much like the opener on Friday, the Tigers (19-5, 1-1 Southeastern) took an early lead, but unlike the previous contest LSU was able to keep its foot on the gas and produced all eight runs on 10 hits in the game with seven different players earning hits in the victory.

In the top of the sixth with LSU out to a five-run lead, Jaquish blasted her fourth home run of the season to set the new mark of 237, passing former Tiger Bianka Bell’s number of 236 with one swing of the bat. It was her only hit of the game as she drove in three and scored twice.

Bailey Landry led all players going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored. Amber Serrett used her only hit of the game to drive in two, while Aliyah Andrews went 2-for-2 with run scored.

Hoover (4-2) locked down the Auburn (21-3, 1-1) offense from the jump and earned her third shutout of the season, and in the process forced Auburn into its first shutout in league play since 2015. She scattered three hits and struck out six as Auburn stranded seven runners on base, tossing just 93 pitches in the six-inning affair.

Makayla Martin suffered the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits with two walks and a strikeout. Morgan Podany had two of Auburn’s three hits.

The Game Turned When…

With a two-run lead after two innings, LSU plated three more in the very next inning to go up five and add more pressure to the home side. Jaquish earned a walk to reach base and stole second, as a Sydney Springfield single put runners at the corners. Doyle singled to left to bring in one to make it 3-0. A walk to Shemiah Sanchez loaded the bases, as Quin hit a grounder to second which was thrown wild allowing not one, but two runs to score to make it a 5-0 game.
