PALM SPRINGS, Calif. The No. 7 LSU softball team extended its winning streak to 11 games as the Tigers defeated Long Beach State 13-0 in five innings Friday night at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs.

LSU (12-1) earned its third run-rule victory of the classic on Friday as the squad produced 13 runs on nine hits in the win, smacking four doubles and a pair of home runs as the Tigers ran through three LBSU (5-6-1) pitchers on the afternoon. Eight of the team’s 13 runs came in the second inning alone.

Although only one player finished the night with multiple hits, seven different LSU players earned hits in the win led by freshman Amanda Doyle who went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Doyle, a Santa Clarita, California, native belted the first home run of her career in the win on a two run shot, as fellow freshman Sydney Springfield hit her first as well, drilling the team’s first grand slam of the season.

Springfield brought in four to lead the team, followed by Doyle’s two as Sahvanna Jaquish drove in a pair of runs on her only hit of the night.

Even with the LSU offense running at maximum capacity, the team still got a solid compete-game performance in the circle from junior Allie Walljasper (5-0) who pitched her first shutout of the season in holding Long Beach State to three hits with a strikeout. Walljasper also helped her own cause at the plate by driving in two on a double.

The Game Turned When…

After a scoreless first inning between the two sides, the Tigers exploded for eight runs in the top of the second inning, powered by a Sydney Springfield grand slam. LSU got hits in the frame from Amanda Doyle to start the inning, a double from Serrett to bring in Doyle and a double from Walljasper to bring in two. After a walk and a hit batter loaded the bases, it set the table for Springfield who took the first pitch she saw clear over the fence to make it 7-0. Shemiah Sanchez would add the eighth run on a shot to center.
