A Letter from Head Coach Ed Orgeron
On behalf of LSU and the football staff, I would like to invite you back to campus for our annual LSU Football Coaches Clinic, which will be held March 23-24. We are excited to announce NFL Hall of Fame Inductee Anthony Munoz as the featured speaker for this year’s clinic. Anthony is one of the game’s all-time great players, and it is a privilege to have him here on the LSU campus to share some insight and a wealth of knowledge on his career and football experience.
We are extremely excited to get back on the field to begin working with our football team. Spring practice will begin on Saturday, March 11, and will conclude with the National L-Club Spring Game on April 22. We are proud to announce that this year’s spring game will be a ‘Saturday Night in Death Valley’ and will kickoff at 7 p.m. in Tiger Stadium. We hope that you will make arrangements to come join us in what will be a weekend full of festivities.
As head coach, I firmly believe that you as high school coaches make a difference in our success. With that said, I would like to extend an open invitation to each of you, as well as your staff, to come visit LSU as much as you feel necessary. My staff will always welcome you with open arms and will put forth great effort to ensure that your visit is productive.
Now is the time to put in the work and attention to detail that are required to win championships in the fall. We are fortunate to play football at the highest level of competition in America, and we look forward to another challenging SEC schedule in 2017. We have an outstanding group of featured speakers for this year’s clinic, and it is my hope that you and your staff will join us as we continue to share ideas and fellowship through this great game of football. See you in March!
LSU FOOTBALL HEAD COACH
Anthony Muñoz is widely regarded as one of the greatest offensive linemen in the history of the National Football League. Muñoz attended the University of Southern California (USC), where he pitched for the school’s national-championship-winning baseball team during his sophomore year and was a two-time All-American (1978–79) in football. Munoz was chosen by the Cincinnati Bengals with the third overall selection of the 1980 NFL draft and was inserted into the team’s starting lineup for the first game of his rookie season.
The 6-foot 6-inch Muñoz was far more athletic and nimble than his lineman peers. As the passing game increased in prominence in the NFL during the 1970s, his combination of size and quickness helped redefine the left tackle position as an agile protector of the quarterback’s blind side. Muñoz earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors in his second season as the Bengals advanced to their first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in each season through 1991 and was named first-team All-Pro eight additional times over the course of his career. In 1994 he was named to the NFL’s 75th Anniversary All-Time Team, and in 1998 he became the first Bengal to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Deuce was drafted by the Saints in the first round of the 2001 Draft. He rushed for over 1000 yards for 3 straight years. In 2003 Deuce finished 4th in the league with 1641 rushing yards and was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2003. Presently, Deuce is the color analyst for all of the Saints Football games and has a radio show in New Orleans.
Played center in the NFL for 16 years and was a Hall of Fame Finalist for the class of 2017. Kevin was selected for the Pro Bowl on six consecutive seasons. He also served as NFLPA President for two terms. Mawae was a 4 year starter and was inducted into the LSU Hall of Fame in 2007.
