A Letter from Head Coach Ed Orgeron

Dear Coaches,

The LSU Football Coaching Staff and I invite you to join us for our annual Spring Football Coaches’ Clinic on April 5-7, 2018.

We are honored to have the legendary Joe Gibbs, longtime head coach of the Washington Redskins, as our keynote speaker. As the first coach in NFL history to win three Super Bowls with three different starting quarterbacks, Coach Gibbs stands as one of the most successful head coaches of all-time.

Off the field, Coach Gibbs has developed one of NASCAR’s most successful multi-team racing organizations, Joe Gibbs Racing, earning 4 NASCAR Championships since 1993.

Our lineup of speakers includes former NFL quarterback and Louisiana native Jake Delhomme and a number of outstanding coaches from universities across Louisiana. This will be a wonderful opportunity for us coaches to get together and talk football with some of the best in the industry.

As head coach of the LSU Tigers, I want to congratulate each of you on your team’s success, on and off the field. Louisiana has some of the greatest athletes in the country thanks to the hard work and dedication shown by our high school coaches each year.

As always, you and your staff are welcome to attend our spring practices. The dates are listed in this program. The Tigers have had some great offseason workouts, and I believe we are ready for a productive spring football practice.

Our Spring Game this year is set for April 21, 2018 at 5 p.m. in Tiger Stadium. I hope you and your staff will join us April 5-7 for our Coaches’ Clinic.

As “One Team, One Heartbeat” we can achieve anything!

Geaux Tigers!

Ed Orgeron

Joe Gibbs
Keynote Speaker

Joe Gibbs served as a college and pro football assistant for 15 seasons before landing his first head coaching job with the Washington Redskins in 1981. During his 16-year head coaching run covering two stints with the Redskins (1981-92; 2004-07), Gibbs won 154 regular-season games and another 17 in the postseason.

Gibbs guided the Redskins to four NFC East titles (1983, 1984, 1987 and 1991) and to three Super Bowl crowns. Gibbs’ teams defeated Miami in Super Bowl XVII, Denver in Super Bowl XXII and Buffalo in Super Bowl XXVI. Gibbs’ only championship-game losses came at the hands of the Los Angeles Raiders in Super Bowl XVIII and the New York Giants in the 1986 NFC title contest.

Gibbs is the only coach to have won three Super Bowls with three different quarterbacks, Joe Theismann (XVII), Doug Williams (XXII) and Mark Rypien (XXVI). Under Gibbs, Washington won 10 or more games eight times and had only one losing season (7-9 in 1988).

Away from football, Gibbs created a NASCAR team in 1982 – Joe Gibbs Racing. His team has claimed four NASCAR Cup Series Championships under his ownership.

Gibbs was born November 25, 1940, in Mocksville, North Carolina, and is a graduate of Cerritos (California) Junior College and San Diego State.

Jake Delhomme
Featured Speaker

Jake Delhomme had a 14-year NFL career with four teams, spanning from 1998-2011. During that time, the Lafayette, Louisiana, native started 96 regular-season games at quarterback and passed for 20,975 yards and 126 touchdowns.

Delhomme prepped at Teurlings Catholic in Lafayette and then later starred at quarterback for Southwestern Louisiana (now Louisiana-Lafayette) from 1993-96. During his career with the Cajuns, Delhomme threw for 9,216 yards and 64 touchdowns in leading his team to a pair of Big West Conference titles and a win over Texas A&M as a senior in 1996.

In the NFL, Delhomme was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New Orleans Saints in 1997. Delhomme went on to start at quarterback for the Carolina Panthers from 2003-09, leading the franchise to a Super Bowl appearance in his first year with the team. Delhomme retired from football in 2011.
