Nistrup Leads Lady Tiger Golfers on Day 1

NEW ORLEANS – LSU senior Caroline Nistrup, a co-champion in this event in 2015, shot the low round for the Lady Tigers Sunday on the first day of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at the English Turn Golf and Country Club.

Nistrup posted a two birdie round of 74 over the par 72 layout.

The Lady Tigers four counting scores on the first round totaled an 18-over score of 306, in 16th place after the first round of the event which runs through Tuesday. Miami is the opening round leader after a 1-under round of 287. They are three-shots better than Denver at 290 with Texas third at 291 and Florida, Houston and Oklahoma State all tied for fourth at 292.

Joining LSU with counting scores were Kathleen Gallagher at 4-over 76 with Monica Dibildox and Lana Hodge both coming in at 6-over 78. Claudia De Antonio, playing as an individual, also had a 4-over 76 in her opening round.

Nistrup is in a group tied for 32nd in the individual competition with Mariell Bruun of Denver and Dewi Weber of Miami tied for first at 4-under 68.

In the team stats, LSU was best on the par 5 holes at +2 and Nistrup played the par 4 holes in even par. LSU had a total of eight birdie in the round.

The second round begins at 8 a.m. on Monday and due to expected inclement weather on Tuesday, the tournament will be played to conclusion after the final two rounds are conducted with a continuous play shotgun format.
