BATON ROUGE, La. - The LSU beach volleyball team will host its annual Purple and Gold Scrimmage this Saturday from 10-12:30 p.m. CT at Mango’s Beach Volleyball Club off of Sherwood Forest in Baton Rouge.
Following the scrimmage, the team will sign autographs, give away posters, and host a free kid’s clinic open to kids of all ages from 1-2 p.m.
“We have been working really hard for a really long time, and the girls have done a great job staying focused as we have been training,” said head coach Russell Brock.
In the past, the scrimmage has served as an opportunity for players to play in a competition-like environment with different partners in multiple sets, allowing the coaching staff to evaluate potential match-ups and pairings leading up to the season opener.
“The information we get from the competition tomorrow will be a big part of our process as we get ready to start the season,” said Brock.
“This will be a great chance to show how much progress we have made from last season until now. We are excited to get the uniforms on and compete in front of our families and fans.”
Entering its fourth season of competition, the LSU beach volleyball team looks to build off the momentum from last season after finishing 2016 with 20 wins, improving to mark the best finish in school history.
This season, LSU returns eight starters and three starting pairs, as well as eight players with 16 or more wins.
The Lady Tigers will open up the season in two weeks against Florida State at the Stetson Invitational in DeLand, Florida on the first weekend in March.
