Lady Tigers Conclude Play In Puerto Rico Classic

 RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The LSU Lady Tigers finished their first tournament of the spring in 15th place in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic which concluded Tuesday at the Rio Grande River Course.

LSU finished with a round of 19-over 307 to finish the three-day event with a 54-hole score of 912, 48-over par. LSU had rounds of 299-306-307.

NC State rallied to win the tournament by shooting a 3-under par round of 285 on the final day to finish at 13-over par 877 (303-299-285). NC State ended up one shot better than first and second round leader Furman which finished in a tie for second with Kent State at 14-over par 878. Furman had rounds of 290-293-295, while Kent State came in at 293-293-292.

Individually, sophomore Kathleen Gallagher posted a second straight 74 in the final round to finish with the best round of the day for LSU and the co-best 54-hole total. Gallagher shot rounds of 77-74-74 for a 9-over total of 225 and that was good enough for a finish of T30. She shared that with senior Caroline Nistrup who had rounds of 72-77-76 for her 225 total.

The Lady Tigers also counted rounds of 77 by junior Sydney Cavin (+14, 230, T51) and senior Carly Goldstein at 80 (+22, 238, 72nd).

LSU returns to Baton Rouge and will quickly be on the course on Sunday at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate that begins at the English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans. That event runs through Tuesday.
