BATON ROUGE -- The LSU women’s tennis team improved to 4-1 on the season by defeating the Memphis Tigers 5-0 at the LSU Tennis Complex Saturday.

Strong doubles play earned LSU an early 1-0 lead on the day as the freshman pairing of Becca Weissmann and Jade Lewis remained undefeated in doubles on the year with a 6-0 win over Clara Kuehn and Josephine Cao on court two.

On court three, Skylar Holloway and Jessica Golovin took down the duo of Marta Morga and Gabrielle Paul to clinch the doubles point for LSU.

“I thought we did a good job in doubles with coming out and getting the early lead,” said co-head coach Julia Sell.

Lewis got the first singles point on the board for the Tigers with a quick 6-2, 6-1 win over No. 91 Anki Wind, her second straight win over a ranked opponent within the past week.

Golovin increased the Tiger lead to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Gabrielle Paul on court three before No. 83 Foster clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Marta Morga on court two.

Abby Owens added some insurance to LSU’s lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court six before the match ended in a 5-0 victory, improving LSU’s record to 4-1 on the season.

“In singles, I thought we did a really good job of getting the early leads and never looking back,” said Sell. “This Memphis team really fought hard, they had great attitudes, probably some of the best competitive attitudes we’ve seen all year, but our girls took care of business.”

The Tigers will return to action tomorrow at noon against North Florida at the LSU Tennis Complex.

“North Florida is a solid team,” said Sell. “We haven’t played them yet, so it’s a lot of new faces for us, but right now our biggest focus is for our team to get better each and every match,”
