The last time LSU competed against Memphis was in 1982. LSU holds a 5-3 record all-time against Memphis.
“We are excited to open the season against a very challenging opponent,” head coach Jeff Brown said. “The guys are excited about playing on the same court as the Memphis ATP tournament in what should be a very even match.”
LSU is coming off of the 2016 dual season where the Tigers were 15-12 overall and made its 18th NCAA appearance under Brown, advancing to the second round.
The Tigers had a very successful fall season and finished with strong momentum at the Rainbow Warrior Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii. Senior Justin Butsch notched wins against two ranked opponents in the event, as he defeated No. 10 Nicolas Alvarez of Duke and No. 14 Gustav Hansson of Ole Miss.
LSU returns two-time doubles All-American in Jordan Daigle, who has 38 career doubles victories. During the fall season, Daigle and Butsch paired to compile eight wins.
In 2016, Memphis recorded a 14-11 season and had its fourth NCAA tournament appearance in five seasons. Memphis returns junior Ryan Peniston, who was a first team all-conference player, and the 2015 American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year Andrew Watson.
