HONOLULU, Hawaii— Senior Justin Butsch notched a singles win against #10 Nicolas Alvarez as the Tigers recorded four singles victories and two doubles wins on the final day of the Rainbow Warrior Invitational at the UH Tennis Complex.

The Tigers return to practice in Baton Rouge before opening the dual season on January 22 at Memphis.

“Overall today was a good performance for our players,” head coach Jeff Brown said. “All of the players competed well, and we see plenty to both build on and work on.”

The Tigers started off the day with two wins on the doubles courts as Jordan Daigle and Justin Butsch defeated Duke’s Vincent Lin/Catalin Mateasa, 7-5. Gabor Csonka and Julian Saborio also secured a win against Duke’s Jason Lapidus and Robert Levinea, defeating the duo 6-4.

In singles, Butsch defeated Duke’s No. 10 player in the nation Alavarez after he retired during the first round as Butsch held on to a 3-2 lead.

Csonka took the first set from Duke’s Lin, 6-1 and fell in the second set 4-6, but Lin retired in the third set as Csonka had the 4-3 lead to record another Tiger victory.

Freshman Rafael Wagner defeated Duke’s Robert Levine in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, and freshman Eric Samuelsson won against Hawaii's Chris Cajigana, 6-1, 6-3.

“We all enjoyed this wonderful island, and the team had a great time and worked hard,” Brown said.
