Celaya-Hernandez Notches First Place On Platform

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- Juan Celaya-Hernandez capped off an impressive three-day stretch of diving, notching a win on platform as the LSU diving team closed out the final day of the Tennessee Diving Invitational at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.

The LSU swimming and diving team will return to action at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday for the senior tribute against Alabama at the LSU Natatorium in Baton Rouge. 

"I'm very happy with our finish today," said head diving coach Doug Shaffer. "Juan's win was spectacular and was his best and most consistent platform list to date. 

The women started off the day with strong performances from Lizzie Cui and Makayla Robillard. Cui finished in seventh overall with a score of 225.50. Robillard took 26th place with a score of 185.65.

On the men’s side, Celaya-Hernandez grabbed first place with a score of 413.55. Matthew Phillip secured a top-10 finish, posting a score of 314.60 for sixth overall. Matt McClellan also tallied 16th place, diving to a score of 266.55

"Matt (Phillip), Matt (McClellan) and Lizzie also performed well and are making great progress on platform," said Shaffer. "We're looking forward to competing against Alabama at home on Saturday as we work to fine tune things looking ahead to our championship."
