Celaya-Hernandez Takes Third On Three-Meter
Communications Student Assistant
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- Juan Celaya-Hernandez took third place overall on three-meter as the LSU diving team closed out day two of the Tennessee Diving Invitational at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
The team will conclude the invite with platform diving tomorrow slated for a 10 a.m. CT start.
“Today, we were rocky and a little inconsistent. We had some really excellent individual dive highs, but from a list perspective, we faltered a bit,” said head diving coach Doug Shaffer.
“The preliminary contests are very long and are not necessarily conducive for best performances, but that’s a challenge we meet with determination as that will prepare us for our championship season.”
For the men, Celaya-Hernandez garnered third place in the three-meter finals, posting a score of 380.65. Andrew Suchla secured eighth overall with a score of 342.50. Matt McClellan rounded out the men’s final with a score of 325.00 for 11th place.
In the preliminaries, Matthew Phillip also scored a 280.90 for 19th overall.
Makayla Robillard turned in a strong performance in the prelims, compiling a score of 246.20 for 18th place.
“We had five finalists and our competitive mindset is in the right place, so there is a lot of positive to take from the day,” said Shaffer.
