BATON ROUGE – LSU will wrap up what has been a productive spring on both sides of the ball on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT when the Tigers play the annual National L-Club Spring Game in Tiger Stadium.

The game will feature the White squad against the Purple team and will consist of four 15-minute quarters. The game will be played under normal rules, with the exception of no live contact on punts and kickoffs, for the first half before shifting to a running clock for the second half.

The game will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Radio Network with Patrick Wright, Doug Moreau and Gordy Rush on the call and can be heard in the Baton Rouge area on 104.5/104.9 FM.

The game will also be part of the SEC Network “whip-around” coverage and will feature Adam Amin, former Tiger Marcus Spears and Kaylee Hartung on the call. Fans can see the game live in its entirety on SEC Network+ starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Admission to the game is free of charge and will be preceded by the Rock N’ Roar Block Party starting at 11 a.m. on North Stadium Road between Tiger Stadium and the Maravich Center. Gates to Tiger Stadium open at 11:30 a.m. and fans are asked to enter the stadium on the west side thru gates 1-6.

Those fans seated in the East Side Suites will enter thru gate 14 and those sitting in the South Suites will enter thru gate 21. Gate 10 on the east side of Tiger Stadium will be the handicap entrance.

Fans are also reminded that the Tiger Stadium bag policy will be in effect and that prohibits backpacks or any bag or purse larger than 8 ½ x 11” from being brought into the stadium. The following is a list of other items that are prohibited from Tiger Stadium:

  • Coolers, ice chests, bottles, cans, cups (or containers of any kind)
  • Outside food and drinks
  • Umbrellas
  • Any type of artificial noise makers
  • Pets of any variety (except for service animals)
  • Video Cameras
  • Weapons of any kind – including pocket knives, multi-function tools and any other items deemed inappropriate
  • Smoking (cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and cigars are not permitted)
  • Banners/Flags/Poles of any kind (or any obtrusive/obstructive signage)

Saturday's game will be the 15th practice for the Tigers since early March and according to LSU head coach Les Miles, it’s been a very competitive spring.

“Spring is about guys pursuing jobs and pursuing a position and really affirming that fact that they are looking for some big plays coming their way,” Miles said. “We made a lot of progress on both sides of the ball this spring. The players have worked hard and really come the field with a want and desire to get better.

“It’s been fun to watch some of the young guys who have really stepped up and competed for positions. The veterans have done a good job of stepping up and asserting themselves as leaders both on the field, in the locker room and in meeting rooms.”

The spring game will also be a chance for quarterbacks Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris to gain a step on the starting job come the fall. Both players have split time with the No. 1 offense this spring. They will both get reps with the first and second units on Saturday.

“It’s interesting,” Miles said. “In other words, both guys in different times in spring look like they were closing in on the job, and then the other guy makes a move. Most recently, Brandon Harris has looked pretty good, and I think Anthony Jennings has had a great spring. (Thursday) was a good day for both of them.”

Defensively, the Tigers are under the direction of first-year coordinator Kevin Steele and new defensive line coach Ed Orgeron. The Tigers return seven starters from a unit that led the Tigers in total defense, pass defense and scoring defense in 2014.

“I think you’ll find that there will be some similarities to the old defense, the defense we have run here for quite some time,” Miles said. “I think there’s kind of a different approach to the teaching. I think Kevin Steele has certainly done a great job instituting some real change, but yet making it look and feel very much like we’ve always had our defense.

Ed Orgeron has great enthusiasm. He’s just a great coach to have as a position coach. If you aren’t excited to go to practice, you’re not being coached by Ed.”
