LJUBJANA, Slovenia – LSU women's golfer Madelene Sagstrom split two tight matches on Thursday, but her Swedish team couldn't come back from a 2-0 deficit and fell to Switzerland, 4-3, in the opening round of match play Thursday in the championship flight of the European Golf Association's Ladies Amateur Team Championship held at the par 71 Golf and Country Club of Ljubjana.

Sagstrom and Linnea Strom lost to the Swiss pair of Albane Valenzuela and Gioia Carpinelli in a foursomes match, 1 UP as Sweden lost both foursomes matches to fall behind 2-0 in the championships flight quarterfinals.

It came down to the five singles matches with Sweden needing to get four of them to advance. Sagstrom did her part with a 1UP victory over Cylia Damerau, but in the end the Swedes could only get three singles wins to fall by a point.

In flight B, in five-game matches, Denmark scored a 3-2 win over Scotland and LSU golfer Caroline Nistrup was a 4&2 winner over Jessica Meek. Austria lost to Belgium, 3.5-1.5, with LSU's Nadine Dreher getting a half in her match with Belgium's Leslie Cloots.
