LJUBJANA, Slovenia – Three LSU women’s golfers took part in the opening round of the European Golf Association’s Ladies Amateur Team Championship Tuesday at the Golf and Country Club of Ljubjana.

Senior-to-be Madelene Sagstrom’s Swedish team got off to a good start in the play six, count five system that will determine the flights for match play after Wednesday’s second round of qualifying. Sagstrom shot 3-over 74 and her team posted a team total of 1-under par 354 to stand tied with Italy at 1-under. England is the team leader at 3-under par 352.

Sagstrom is tied for 59th place after the opening round.

Denmark, with sophomore-to-be Caroline Nistrup on the team, is ninth at 6-over par 361 with Nistrup recording a 4-over 75 to stand in a tie for 70th in the individual competition. Austria is in a tie for 15th at 18-over par 373 as LSU junior-to-be Nadine Dreher posted a 5-over 76. She is tied for 85th place.

Play continues on Wednesday and the tournament runs through Saturday.
