LUBBOCK, Texas – LSU sophomore shortstop Alex Bregman has been named to the first watch list for the 2014 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award.
The Brooks Wallace Award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation's top shortstop and will be presented during the National College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions on June 28 in Lubbock.
Bregman, native of Albuquerque, N.M., was the winner of the 2013 Brooks Wallace award as a freshman, batting .369 with 18 doubles, seven triples, six homers and 52 RBI in helping lead LSU to the College World Series.
Bregman is hitting .289 this season with nine doubles, two homers, 29 RBI and a team-high 10 stolen bases. He has committed only nine errors at shortstop in 209 chances.
Bregman has collected two hits six times in LSU’s last nine games. He is batting .317 over the nine-game stretch with three doubles, five RBI and four runs scored.
