BATON ROUGE, La. – Fifth-ranked LSU (33-11-1) plays host to Alcorn State at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

The game can be heard on the LSU Sports Radio Network, including Baton Rouge flagship WDGL-FM 98.1 FM. Live video, audio and stats of the game may be accessed in the Geaux Zone at www.LSUsports.net/live.

Tuesday’s matchup is one of two non-SEC games remaining on the LSU schedule. The other is a May 13 home contest against Northwestern State.

LSU, winners of 13 of its last 16 games, is in third place in the SEC Western Division standings after winning two of three games over Tennessee last weekend. The Tigers trail Alabama and Ole Miss by just a half-game with nine SEC games remaining in the regular season.

LSU, ranked No. 5 this week by Perfect Game, has appeared in the Top 10 of a major college baseball poll for 46 consecutive weeks, and the Tigers have won 21 of their 27 SEC series over the past three seasons.

LSU hit .364 as a team in its four games last week, collecting 26 runs on 48 hits, including 14 doubles. The Tigers batted .351 in the Tennessee series, scoring 20 runs on 34 hits.

“Pitching has carried our team for much of this season, but our hitters were really locked in and did an outstanding job last week,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. “(LSU hitting coach) Javi Sanchez does tremendous work with the hitters, and our approach at the plate has been excellent. The teams we’re playing down the stretch all swing the bats well, so our offense will need to continue to be a factor for us to have success.”

Mainieri said freshman right-hander Parker Bugg (2-1, 1.65 ERA) will make his first career collegiate start on Tuesday night against Alcorn. In 21 relief appearances, Bugg has worked 27.1 innings, recording four walks and 24 strikeouts.

LSU freshman outfielder Jake Fraley hit .533 (8-for-15) in the Tigers’ four games last week with two doubles, six RBI, three runs, one stolen base and a .529 on base-percentage. In LSU’s SEC series victory over Tennessee, Fraley batted .455 (5-for-11) with two doubles, three RBI, three runs, one steal and a .462 on-base percentage.

Fraley, who is riding a five-game hitting streak, tied a career-high with three hits on Friday night against the Vols, scoring two runs and driving in one … on Sunday, Fraley led off the eighth inning with the score tied 4-4 and drew a walk, later scoring the eventual winning run all the way from first base on second baseman Conner Hale’s double. Fraley is hitting .338 on the year with five doubles, one triple, one homer and 21 RBI

Sophomore shortstop Alex Bregman hit .444 (8-for-18) in LSU’s four games last week with two doubles, three RBI and two runs. Bregman was 6-for-15 (.400) in the Tennessee series with two doubles, three RBI, two runs and one steal.

Sophomore rightfielder Mark Laird delivered his second game-winning, walk-off hit in less than two weeks in Friday’s 8-7 win over Tennessee. Laird’s two-out single with runners on first and second in the bottom of the ninth lifted LSU to the victory; Laird also lined a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning on April 12 to give LSU a 5-4 win over Arkansas.

LSU leads Alcorn State, 5-0, in the all-time series between the schools. All five LSU victories over the Braves have come in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. LSU defeated the Braves, 7-3, last season and posted two wins over Alcorn in 2012 by scores of 19-0 and 7-2. The Tigers also defeated Alcorn in 2011 (7-1) and in 2010 (17-5).
