BATON ROUGE – As the LSU Track & Field prepare to kick off their 2014 outdoor season in full this weekend at the 87th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, the Tigers and Lady Tigers each received a No. 8 national ranking in the outdoor preseason Top 25 power ranking released Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The USTFCCCA outdoor preseason Top 25 has been compiled using the seasonal-best times and marks of all athletes returning to NCAA Division I programs from the 2013 outdoor season.

LSU’s teams each earned Top 10 national finishes at the 2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., a year ago when the Lady Tigers took home the fourth-place team trophy in the final women’s team standings and the Tigers cracked the Top 10 with a seventh-place team finish in the final men’s team standings to wrap up the 2013 season.

The teams look to carry their momentum from the 2014 indoor season into the outdoor campaign after the Tigers won the NCAA Indoor championship in the men’s 4x400-meter relay to highlight a successful two days of action in Albuquerque, N.M., at this year’s NCAA Indoor Championships. Tiger junior Vernon Norwood also captured the NCAA Indoor silver medal as the national runner-up in the men’s 400-meter dash, while Lady Tiger seniors Lynnika Pitts (triple jump) and Jasmin Stowers (60 hurdles) each won NCAA Indoor bronze medals as the third-place finishers nationally in their respective events.
