Women's Golf Fifth After Day 2 in South Carolina

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – LSU women’s golfer Caroline Nistrup fired a 2-under par round of 69 Saturday and is one shot out of the lead going to Sunday’s final round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the Long Cove Club.

Nistrup has a two-day total of 140 (71-69) and is two shots out of the lead of Sarah Meadows of Alabama at 3-under 139 (67-72). The LSU freshman is tied for second at 2-under with Celine Boutier of Duke who had rounds of 69-71.

LSU is fifth after 36 holes at 25-over par after rounds of 297 and 296 on the par 71 course. Duke is the team leader at 7-over 575 (284-291) with Vanderbilt in second at 583 (+15). South Carolina is third at 22-over 590, two shots ahead of North Carolina in fourth (+24) and the Tar Heels are one shot ahead of LSU. Oklahoma is one more shot back at 594.

Nistrup, who is ranked 15th in the country in the Golfstat Performance Rankings, has over 36 holes played the par threes and par fives in even par and the par fours in -2 under. The par four play is the best of any player in the tournament through the first two rounds. Nistrup is one of just 13 golfers in the field of 90 to have at least six birdies through two rounds of play. She is sixth in the field in pars with 26.

On the second day, LSU also counted a 4-over 75 from Madelene Sagstrom who posted back-to-back 75s for a 150 and tie for 30th place. LSU also counted a 75 from Nadine Dreher and a 77 from Ali Lucas.

The Lady Tigers will be back in action for the third and final round at 7:45 a.m. paired with North Carolina and Oklahoma.
