Nominee for SEC Offensive Player of the Week

Jacee Blades, Sr., Baton Rouge, La.
LSU senior outfielder Jacee Blades racked up a team-best 16 hits in seven games this week with two stolen bases, three RBI and seven runs scored, finishing with a staggering .667 hitting percentage, .667 on-base percentage and .750 slugging percentage. The Baton Rouge, La., native had five multi-hit games, including going a perfect 4-for-4 against Oregon which was a career high. Blades started the week going a combined 5-for-5 against Penn State with a triple, RBI and three runs scored. Against the Ducks she accounted for four of the team’s six hits, while she went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored in the comeback win against Stanford. Blades leads the team in batting with .444 average and is on a seven-game hitting streak.

Nominee for SEC Pitcher and Freshman of the Week

Baylee Corbello, Fr., Lake Charles, La.
LSU freshman hurler Baylee Corbello had a perfect week going 4-0, all in complete-game victories, to move to 6-2 on the season with a paltry 1.21 earned run average on the year. Corbello started the week allowing just two hits to Penn State, and followed that up with her third shutout of the season in holding Long Beach State to just two hits as well with six strikeouts. Corbello stood firm scattering just six hits and working out of jams to allow just one run to cross the plate against the Titans, while she went the distance against a ranked Stanford team in the comeback victory over the Cardinal where she struck out four. She also fared well at the plate, earning hits against LBSU and CSF, scoring twice and earning two walks for a .286 batting average.

Notes on the Tigers
LSU enters the week 12-5 on the season after going 4-1 in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic and 5-2 overall when including the doubleheader against Penn State last Monday. LSU went 2-1 against ranked teams in the tournament, handing No. 3 Washington its first loss of the season and coming back to defeat No. 13 Stanford in the top of the seventh inning. The only loss was to No. 6 Oregon, although LSU had a bases loaded opportunity to seal the game late. The Tigers are 9-1 when they score first and 6-2 when they score in the first inning. The Tigers have outscored its opponents 102-35 in the first five innings of games. Jacee Blades hit a team-high .667 for the week, earning 16 hits with three RBI and seven runs scored with two stolen bases. Blades leads the team in batting with a .444 average and team-high 24 hits and is on a season-long seven game hitting streak. LSU hit 10 home runs as a team, and has hit a home run in each of the last five games. Bianka Bell has five home runs to lead the team, followed by Kellsi Kloss and Allison Falcon with four. Bell and Kloss each had three home runs last week, while Falcon connected with two. Bell has reached base safely in each of the last 12 games which ties Sahvanna Jaquish for the team season high. Falcon had three of the team’s five triples last week. Five of LSU’s top seven hitters have driven in at least 10 RBI so far on the season. The Tigers stole 10 bases against opponents last week, with 44 total on the year led by A.J. Andrews’ 12. Baylee Corbello went 4-0 in games last week, going the distance in each and moving to 6-2 on the season. Corbello earned her third shutout of the year against Long Beach State, as she struck out 17 in the four games. Ashley Czechner earned the win over Washington, allowing one earned run, while scattering seven hits with five strikeouts. LSU hosts the Purple and Gold Challenge Feb. 28-March 2, taking on Jackson State, Iowa State, Harvard and Lamar.
