BATON ROUGE – LSU junior Rheagan Courville earned Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week recognition after her stellar performance in the Metroplex Challenge, the league office announced Tuesday.
Courville tied the nation’s best all-around total this season with a 39.750 to lead LSU to a school-record score of 197.875 at the Metroplex Challenge, and she recorded the second perfect 10.0 of her career on vault.
Courville’s all-around total tied her career high that she previously set at the 2013 SEC Championship, and it marked her fifth all-around title of the year and 18th of her career.
With her 10.0 on vault at Metroplex, Courville became only the fourth LSU gymnast to score multiple 10s on vault. Her first 10.0 came at the 2013 SEC Championship.
She also tied her career high on beam with a 9.95 to place second in the event at Metroplex, and she added a 9.925 on floor and a 9.875 on bars.
The award is the first of the season for Courville, and it is her sixth career SEC honor, including her third gymnast of the week selection. Courville was named SEC Gymnast of the Week twice last season after great meets against North Carolina State and Missouri. She earned SEC Freshman of the Week three times in 2012.
No. 3 LSU (7-2, 3-1 SEC) is back in action Friday in a meet that pits the nation’s No. 2 and 3 ranked teams for the third-straight week. The Tigers take on second-ranked Florida at 6 p.m. CT in the O’Connell Center.
