TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 60 LSU women’s tennis team (4-1) faces No. 27 Florida State (3-2) on Saturday in an ESPN3 showdown at 11 a.m. CST.
“Florida State is a Top 25 team and it’s a storied team that’s always traditionally very good,” said LSU head coach Julia S. Sell. “They are well coached, so it’s a great opportunity for us to go out and showcase where we’re at right now as well.”
This will mark the Lady Tiger’s first appearance on ESPN3.
“With the match being filmed on ESPN, that’s kind of huge,” said Sell. “It’s a huge push in our sport right now to get us televised and make us more public and grow our sport, so we are excited that we are one of the matches that’s been chosen for that. They are only showing 22 teams. Nationwide, with over 500 teams, to be one of those 22 is pretty great for us.”
In its last outing, LSU faced No. 64 SMU in Dallas in a Sunday afternoon matchup. On court one, Mary Jeremiah and Noel Scott won their first doubles match as partners 6-2, while Joana Vale Costa and Skylar Holloway completed the doubles round with a 6-4 victory. Scott, Vale Costa and Ella Taylor each earned singles victories as the Lady Tigers defeated the Bulls 6-1.
Florida State leads the series 10-8 after defeating the Lady Tigers 6-1 in their Feb. 21, 2010 match.
