BATON ROUGE – School officials gave final approval Monday afternoon that the LSU Track & Field program can play host to three high school meets over the next three weeks at the newly renovated Carl Maddox Field House as work on the project is nearing completion.
High school athletes will have two opportunities to qualify for the state meet as the University will play host to the LSU High School Qualifier on Saturday and the LSU High School Last Chance Qualifier on Feb. 15 before hosting the Louisiana High School Athletics Association Indoor State Championships on Feb. 22 as it does each year.
The annual LSU High School Classic previously scheduled for Jan. 11 was canceled and the LSU High School Qualifier originally set for two weeks ago as been rescheduled for Saturday as the program is ready to host its first competition of the 2014 season.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers will also play host to their only home college meet of the season on Friday, Feb. 21, as the LSU Twilight will be held the day before the LHSAA Indoor State Championships.
The competition area at the Carl Maddox Field House now features the same Mondo track surface installed at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium outdoors, as well as two long jump and triple jump runways, a new pole vault runway and new throwing circles. Fans will also enjoy the permanent bleacher seating that has been installed to accommodate spectators arriving to the campus.
The locker rooms, team lounge, concessions and restroom facilities at the Carl Maddox Field House will not be available for use at any meet during the 2014 season. However, ancillary support facilities will be provided externally for use during each of the four meets to be held during the remainder of the season.
