BATON ROUGE -- The No. 24 LSU men’s tennis team opens its 2014 dual season against Rice at noon Sunday in Houston.

Four of the eight current players participated in the 2013 season. It will be the first LSU match for the other four Tigers.

“I think the nerves will go away quickly,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “I’m looking to see if under pressure they can maintain the great attitudes and competitiveness that they’ve had in practice and not let anything deter them from finding a way to get things going in the right direction.”

While this is the first dual match of 2014 for LSU, Rice (0-1) already has a match under its belt against No. 20 Texas. The Longhorns defeated the Owls, 7-0, on Friday night in Houston.

For LSU, 46th-ranked sophomore Tam Trinh and freshman Eric Perez will lead the Tigers into doubles action with a 6-0 record on the year. The Tigers have the No. 60 doubles team in junior Chris Simpson and sophomore Boris Arias. Simpson is also the No. 72 singles player in the country.

“I’m excited to see them compete,” Brown said. “You’re not nervous if everyone shows up to play.”
