BATON ROUGE – Coming off a fantastic 2013 season in which they earned a Super Six berth, the LSU gymnastics team checked in at No. 5 nationally in the GymInfo Preseason Coaches poll released Thursday.

It is the highest preseason ranking in LSU history. The previous best was No. 6 in the 2010 preseason poll after the Tigers competed in a second-straight Super Six in the 2009 season.

It also marks the 17th consecutive season LSU is ranked in the top 15 in the preseason poll.

The Tigers wrapped up the 2013 season with a fifth-place finish at the Super Six in Los Angeles, Calif., and LSU returns 13 letterwinners from last year’s squad, including seven All-Americans in Rheagan Courville, Kaleigh Dickson, Lloimincia Hall, Jessie Jordan, Maliah Mathis, Sarie Morrison and Randii Wyrick. LSU also brings back five All-SEC performers in 2014 with Courville, Hall, Jordan, Morrison and Jessica Savona.

In addition to returning 21 of 24 routines from last season, LSU welcomes four talented freshmen to the fold with Sydney Ewing, Ashleigh Gnat, Shonacee Oliva and Shae Zamardi.

Season tickets are on sale to see the Top 5 Tigers in action in six home meets in 2014. Tickets are $30 for adults and $18 for youth ages 3-12, and tickets can be purchased online at www.LSUtix.net, by phone at 800-960-8587 or 225-578-2184 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT.

LSU is set to hold Gymnastics 101 on Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Maravich Center, and fans can get a first look at the Tigers during the event as the team will perform routines on each event. It is also free admission to Gymnastics 101, and the team will host an autograph session at the conclusion of the event.

LSU is joined by six other Southeastern Conference teams in the preseason poll, including two others in the Top 5. Florida checks in at No. 1 in the poll with a total of 755 points and 21 first-place votes, followed by Alabama at No. 2 with 739 points. Oklahoma is third and UCLA is fourth while the Tigers round out the Top 5.

Georgia is No. 8, Arkansas is No. 11, Auburn is No. 13 and Kentucky is No. 21. Missouri is the only unranked SEC team.

LSU opens the 2014 season on Jan. 10 when the Tigers plays host to Centenary at 7 p.m. in the Maravich Center. LSU also welcomes Auburn, Alabama, Missouri, North Carolina State and Kentucky to the Maravich Center to round out a competitive home schedule before LSU hosts the NCAA Regional on April 5.
