BATON ROUGE – LSU football players Alfred Blue, Kadron Boone, J.C. Copeland, Justin Maclin and Jermauria Rasco participated in the Focusing on College and Unlimited Success (FOCUS) Program’s luncheon Thursday at the French House on-campus.

FOCUS, a student led LSU Honors College organization, holds a college immersion program for high-achieving high school freshman. Participants live on LSU’s campus and attend daily seminars and workshops during the two-week program.

The players enjoyed sharing their experiences with the ninth graders. They spoke with the high school students about being Sport Administration majors and why they chose that path.

“I didn’t have anyone that shared their college experience with me before I jumped into the process,” Boone said. “I really wanted to make sure to have a message that could help the students with planning out their future.”

The players talked about the difficulties of balancing academics and sports. They spoke about the sacrifices they have had to make in order to be successful, and they gave tips on how to prepare for college while they are still in high school.

“My favorite part about the visit was talking with the kids and giving them advice about their future,” Boone said. “There’s a really great opportunity here at LSU for students to get their degrees, go on and do great things in their communities.”

The players also stressed the importance of planning for the future now, not waiting until they graduate.

“I think it is important for high school students to start creating good habits now,” Copeland said. “That way it will be a smooth transition when they come to college.”
