BATON ROUGE, La. – No. 2 LSU (48-8, 23-7 SEC) fell to No. 14 Ole Miss (36-20, 15-15 SEC) by a score of 11-9 in Game 3 of the series Saturday at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

The Tigers took the first two games of the series, setting a school record for most wins in a regular season. The Rebels have not won a series in Baton Rouge since 1982. In addition, LSU set a new high for a single-season paid attendance figure at 413,588.

LSU now moves on to the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala. to face either Auburn or Alabama at approximately 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

LSU’s 48 regular-season wins and its 23 SEC victories are the most in school history.

LSU rested most of its regular starting position players on the final day of the regular season. A lineup composed of back-up players collected nine runs on 15 hits against the Ole Miss staff.

“Our guys fought hard until the very last out,” said LSU pitching coach Alan Dunn, who spoke to the media after the game so head coach Paul Mainieri could attend his son’s high school graduation ceremony. “We played a lot of guys who normally don’t get an opportunity in SEC games, and they gave us a tremendous effort. Our team has talent throughout the roster and great chemistry, and that was in evidence today.”

Ole Miss second baseman Preston Overbey gave the Rebels a 2-0 lead in the second inning with a two-run home run.
