Men's Tennis Picked Fifth in SEC West
BATON ROUGE - The LSU men's tennis team was selected fifth in the SEC West in the preseason coaches poll, the league office announced on Thursday.
The 13th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels were voted as the overall conference champion, as they finished last season with a 15-9 record and went 7-4 in conference play.
Ole Miss was also voted to win the SEC West with 74 points. Coming in second with 63 points is Mississippi State, followed by Texas A&M with 53 points, Auburn with 46 points, LSU with 34 points, Alabama with 22 points, and Arkansas with 16 points.
Georgia was picked as the Eastern Division Champion with 65 points, followed by Tennessee with 47 points, Florida with 42 points, Kentucky with 37 points, Vanderbilt with 27 points, and South Carolina with 13 points.
The preseason poll is voted on by the men's tennis head coach at each institution and is based on a 6-5-4-3-2-1 count in the East division and 7-6-5-4-3-2-1 in the West division. They also vote for the overall champion, with each vote counting as one point. Two coaches did not return ballots.
No. 24 LSU opens the 2013 dual season against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles this Monday at 1 p.m. CT at W.T. "Dub" Robinson Stadium. Admission is free so come out and support the Tigers as they kick off the 2013 season.
