BATON ROUGE, La. -- The LSU Diving team will travel to Auburn, Ala. to compete in a quad meet against host Auburn, Alabama and Georgia Tech.
The teams annually hold this competition at the conclusion of finals and right before the athletes break for the holidays. The meet will begin on Monday and conclude on Wednesday. The athletes will compete in the one-meter, three-meter and platform events.
"Since finals are over, we've really been able to train well and without distraction," Diving Coach Doug Shaffer said. "We've learned a number of new dives that we will utilize for the first time this season. We look forward to some excellent competition on all levels."
Junior diver Daniel Helm is fresh off of a platform victory at the Phil Hansel Invitational in Houston, Texas where he totaled LSU's second best all-time score of 369.90. His score is the second best in the Southeastern Conference this season.
Freshman diver Cassie Weil set LSU's all-time three-meter dive record with a score of 372.68 in her collegiate debut in a dual-meet with Auburn at the beginning of the season. Weil was named the SEC's Female Diver of the Week for her score, which is also tops in the conference this season. In addition at the Phil Hansel Invite, Weil notched the program's fourth best platform dive score of 263.85.
Sophomore diver and last year's SEC Freshman Diver of the Year, Alex Bettridge, captured the one-meter title in Houston with a score of 305.20.
Junior divers Sean McKinney and Kevin Leong also enjoyed success at the Phil Hansel Invite with a pair of top-10 finishes on both the one-meter and three-meter. McKinney also finished third on the platform with a score of 313.85, which was fifth best all-time for LSU.
