BATON ROUGE - LSU gymnastics head coach D-D Breaux announced Wednesday the signing of Shae Zamardi to round out the fall signing period for the Tigers.
A native of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, Zamardi competes at the senior high performance level and trains at Flicka Gymnastics under coaches Dorina Stan and David Kenwright.
"Shae competes all-around, but the event we really recruited her for was bars," Breaux said. "I would compare her uneven bars to Annie Gagnon, who was a three-time All-American for us in that event. Shae does that high quality of work."
Zamardi has earned numerous top 10 finishes on bars in her club career, including a silver medal at the 2011 Canada Winter Games, sixth place at the 2011 Canadian Championships and seventh place at the 2012 Canadian Championships.
At the 2010 Wild Rose Invitational she recorded a second-place finish on bars to go along with seventh place on vault and eighth in the all-around.
She earned fourth place in the all-around in the junior division at the 2010 Canadian Championships, finishing third on bars, fifth on vault and eighth on floor.
"Shae will contribute in the other three events, but she is a stellar bar worker," Breaux said. "That's the event that we need to create a little more depth, so we are excited to sign her."
Zamardi joins Ashleigh Gnat and Shonacee Oliva as part of this year's signing class. All three will enroll at LSU in fall 2013 and compete as freshmen in the 2014 season.
LSU will continue fall practice leading up to the final team intrasquad meet on Dec. 12 in the practice facility.
The eighth-ranked Tigers open the 2013 season on Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. CT against No. 22 North Carolina State in the Maravich Center.
