BATON ROUGE - LSU student-athletes joined together to host the inaugural "Touring with the Tigers" event for local children in the Big Buddy Program.

Local Big Buddy members were welcomed to LSU's campus to meet many different student-athletes as well as get a behind-the-scenes look at what it's like to be an LSU student-athlete.

The three-day event kicked off with a tour of Tiger Stadium, followed by "Munchies with Mike," where the children ate lunch with Mike the Tiger and the LSU Cheerleaders. Day one came to a close after the participants sat in on LSU swimming & diving practice in the Natatorium.

The second day started with a campus tour, which took them to the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse to watch the gymnastics team practice, then ended at the PMAC for volleyball practice.

Highlighting the day was free admission to the men's basketball game against Northwestern State, where all the children created a tunnel for the student-athletes to run through as they were introduced on the court.

"Touring with the Tigers" ended on a high note. The Big Buddy members were welcomed to practice with the women's basketball team on the final day. That night, they were brought on to the court for the volleyball team's last match of the regular season.

"The Big Buddy program is a great opportunity for young people to learn from others who have accomplished great things in their lives," sophomore defensive end Jordan Allen said. "It also serves as a learning experience for the big buddies as well. The chance to interact and enjoy the events that the Big Buddy Program offers can change the lives of everyone who participates."

The event was hosted by the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes as part of the Shaquille O'Neal Life Skills Program, which aims to provide and aid full student-athlete development.
