Softball Hosts NPF Back to School Tour
BATON ROUGE - The LSU softball team wraps up its fall season and plays host to the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Back to School on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. and admission is free to Tiger Park. Gates for the event will open at 6 p.m.
The Tigers have won their previous seven fall contests by a 54-6 margin fueled by three consecutive shutouts. It marks the second straight year that LSU will play host to the tour. The NPF team was down to its final strike before taking a 4-1 decision over the Tigers last season.
The NPF squad will be comprised of athletes from all four of the NPF professional teams (Akron Racers, Carolina Diamonds, Chicago Bandits and USSSA Florida Pride). The team features several decorated players highlighted Olympic medalist Kelly Kretschman and former NFCA All-American Brittany Mack, a member of LSU's 2012 Women's College World Series squad.
"We're excited for our fans to get the opportunity to see Rachele Fico and Brittany Mack match-up against each other in the circle," head coach Beth Torina said. "Our offense has been swinging the bats extremely well. We know they will have their work cut out for them against Brittany, but there's no doubt that want to finish the fall season on a strong note."
Live video, audio and live stats will be available inside the Geaux Zone at LSUsports.net/live. Fans can follow every pitch of LSU softball this season via live in-game updates on LSU softball's social media outlets at www.Facebook.com/lsusoftball and @LSU_Softball on Twitter.
The NPF is headquartered in Nashville, Tenn. The league, created to give elite female fastpitch players the opportunity to pursue a professional career in their chosen sport, has operated since 1997 under the names of Women's Pro Fastpitch (WPF) and Women's Pro Softball League (WPSL).
