BATON ROUGE -- LSU's Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes (CCACSA) held its annual Major Decisions Symposium on Wednesday, October 3, in the Lawton Room at Tiger Stadium. This event was centered on preparing sophomore student-athletes for their academic futures.

"Our college representatives were extremely enthusiastic contributors to the success of the event and we are grateful for their support and participation," CCACSA Manager for Student Learning and Learning Specialist, Kydani Dover said. "Our hope for all of our Career and Professional Development events is that our student-athletes will learn something that will keep them focused on graduation and/or get them thinking about their careers after college. We were very pleased with our student attendance and I believe they gained valuable information."

In addition to LSU Career Services, representatives, from LSU colleges that were involved this year included: Agriculture, Art & Design, Business, Engineering, Human Sciences & Education, Humanities & Social Sciences, Kinesiology, Mass Communications, Nursing and Science. The student-athletes visited tables and interacted with the representatives to help make their choice on deciding a major, future education and even potential careers upon graduation.

"The Major Decisions Symposium is a great way for sophomores to get connected to their major if they already have one.  Many students are confused about where their major can take them after college and the MDS is a wonderful opportunity to talk to representatives from senior colleges and Career Services about those opportunities," Blake Winchell, Coordinator of Job Search at LSU Career Services, said. "For those students who haven't decided upon a major, the MDS allows them the benefit of speaking to someone in person to help them clarify their ideas."

Student-Athletes React to Career Symposium
"This event helped me get more information about the majors available at LSU. The colleges who came had a lot of knowledge and were helpful. We were able to ask specific questions to the colleges of our choice. I got a lot of my questions answered and have a better understanding." - Odell Beckham Jr. [Football]

"The symposium provided a lot of information about the steps I need to take in order to pursue my career. I want to go pre-med or pre-PA and the career services department provided resources from MCAT prep to hospital volunteer opportunities in order to help me reach my goal. Tonight cleared up questions that I had about my career path." - Dylan Supak [Softball]
