Women's Golf Finishes First Fall Tournament

HANAHAN, S.C. - The LSU women's golf team finished in 18th place in the field of 24 teams after the first tournament of the year concluded on Tuesday, the Cougar Classic at the Yeamans Hall Golf Club.

The Lady Tigers, ranked 10th in the NGCA preseason poll, posted a round of 19-over par on the final day to finish at 38-over par 902 (303-292-307).

The University of Florida had no trouble holding on to the team lead to win the championship after shooting a 1-under on the final round to finish at 12-under par 852 (286-279-287). Florida finished six shots ahead of Duke at 6-under 858 (286-291-281). Duke was 7-under on its final round to move into second.

The best round on the final day for LSU belonged to Katrina Hegge who posted a final round of 3-under 75. Hegge finished the tournament with an even par 36 over the final nine holes.

Madelene Sagstrom finished with the best 54-hole score of the tournament for LSU at 5-over par 226, topped by a 3-under 69 in the second round of the event. Sagstrom finished with rounds of 74-69-78 to post a tie for 43rd finish.

Besides Hegge and Sagstrom, LSU also counted a 76 from Lindsay Gahm and a 78 from Nadine Dreher.

Camilla Hedberg of Florida fired a 4-under 68 in the final round to 13-under par 203 (69-66-68) to win the individual title by four shots over Lindy Duncan of Duke (-9, 207).

The Lady Tigers will next be on the links, Oct. 5-7, at the NCAA Fall Preview at the University of Georgia golf course in Athens, Ga.
