ORLANDO, Fla. - LSU softball coach Beth Torina, former All-American pitcher Brittany Mack and the USSSA Florida Pride continued its recent hot streak with a four-game sweep of the Chicago Bandits last weekend to open a 4.5 game lead in the National Pro Fastpitch Standings.
The Pride improved to 20-11 overall and has won 12 of its 15 games dating back to July 6 when the team played host to a three-game series at Tiger Park.
Mack fired 5.1 efficient frames during a 7-4 victory to put the finishing touches on the sweep. After being touched up for three runs in the first inning, Mack found her rhythm and racked up eight strikeouts to claim her fourth straight victory. She advanced to 5-3 with a 3.93 ERA for the season.
The USSSA Pride welcomes the Akron Racers for a quartet of games this weekend in Florida with three weeks remaining in the regular season. The 2012 NPF Championship Series is slated for August 23-26 in Rosemont, Ill. hosted by the Chicago Bandits.
LSU finished its inaugural season under Torina with a 40-25 record and made the program's third appearance at the Women's College World Series. It marked the 14th time in 16 seasons that the Tigers finished with at least 40 victories since softball was reinstated in 1997.
