BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - LSU had 69 of its student-athletes secure 2012 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll accolades released Monday by the league office.

LSU's track and field program racked up 29 selections on the honor roll. The 2012 NCAA Champion women's program tallied 14 student-athletes on the list and was bested only by the men with 15 honorees.

Jasmin Stowers turned in an impressive sophomore campaign by defending both her SEC Indoor and SEC Outdoor championships in the 60-meter and 100-meter hurdles, respectively. She also notched NCAA All-American status for the second consecutive season with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and was a semifinalist at the recent U.S. Olympic Trials held in Eugene, Oregon.

Michael Lauro capped his career with the Tigers as a four-time NCAA All-American. He garnered a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw at the NCAA Outdoor Championships as the men's program came three points shy of joining the LSU women as national champions.

LSU baseball witnessed 11 student-athletes making the list highlighted by Raph Rymes, the 2012 SEC Player of the Year and American Baseball Coaches Association First-Team All-America selection. He finished the year hitting an NCAA-leading .431 (100-for-232), establishing an LSU record for single-season batting average. The Monroe native also recorded 11 doubles, four homers, 53 RBI, a .530 slugging percentage and a .489 on-base percentage.

The Tigers softball program took home 10 selections after appearing in the program's third Women's College World Series. Brittany Mack was impressive not only on the field en route to NFCA All-South Region Second-Team honors but off the field where she created and championed the Geaux Play program prior to the 2012 season. She collected over 400 items of sporting equipment for the special needs children of the Miracle League Association in Baton Rouge. Mack returned to Tiger Park last weekend and earned her second professional victory as a member of the USSSA Florida Pride.

Five players from the men's and women's tennis teams were on the list. Stefan Szacinski represented the men's squad on the SEC's Community Service Team, while Tom Knights clinched LSU's 4-3 victory over No. 9 Florida on April 8.

Sang Yi was one of nine golfers on the list. He received a pair of honorable mention All-American accolades from PING and Golfweek. On the women's side, Tessa Teachman secured a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships and competed at the U.S. Women's Open last weekend.

A total of 1,038 student-athletes were named to the 2012 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll by SEC Commissioner Mike Slive.

The 2012 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2011 Summer, 2011 Fall and 2012 Spring terms.

Any student-athlete who participates in a Southeastern Conference championship sport or a student-athlete who participates in a sport listed on his/her institution's NCAA Sports Sponsorship Form is eligible for nomination to the Academic Honor Roll. The following criteria should be followed:

(1) A student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.00 or above for either the preceding academic year (two semesters or three quarters) or have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution.

(2) If a student-athlete attends summer school, his/her grade point average during the summer academic term must be included in the calculation used to determine eligibility for the Academic Honor Roll.

(3) Student-athletes eligible for the Honor Roll include those receiving an athletics scholarship, recipients of an athletics award (i.e., letter winner), and non-scholarship student-athletes who have been on a varsity team for two seasons.

(4) Prior to being nominated, a student-athlete must have successfully completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of non-remedial academic credit toward a baccalaureate degree at the nominating institution.

(5) The student-athlete must have been a member of a varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
