Presley Leads Men's Golf on Day 1 of SEC's

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - Sophomore All-SEC candidate Andrew Presley posted an opening-round score of 2-over par 72 to lead the 17th-ranked LSU men's golf team during Friday's first round at the 2012 SEC Men's Golf Championships being held at the Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club.

Presley wrapped up the day in a tie for 30th place on the individual leaderboard as the Tigers posted a total team score of 16-over par 296 to finish the first round in 12th place overall.

On the strength of Bobby Wyatt's 5-under 65 during Friday opening round of the SEC Championship, the No. 8-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide has taken an early one-stroke lead in the race for the conference title with a team score of 8-under par 272 on the afternoon. The No. 25-ranked Georgia Bulldogs trail by just a single stroke on the team leaderboard after firing a 7-under par 273 in the opening round.

The No. 3-ranked Auburn Tigers posted a team score of 3-under 277 on Friday to wrap up the day in third place overall, while defending champion Florida (283) and Kentucky (284) round out the top five.

Wyatt will take a two-stroke lead in the individual standings into Saturday's second round as he leads five golfers that finished the day in a tie for second place with matching scores of 3-under 67.

Joining Presley with counting scores for the Tigers during Friday's round were senior Austin Gutgsell and freshman Stewart Jolly as each carded matching scores of 4-over par 74 to finish the day in a tie for 42nd place in the individual standings. Senior All-SEC and All-America candidate Sang Yi carded a 6-over par 76 for LSU's final team score as he tied for 51st place following the first round.

While making his SEC Championships debut for the Tigers, sophomore Franco Castro finished the day in 60th place overall with his opening-round score of 9-over 79 at the Seaside Course.

The Tigers are paired with Mississippi State and Vanderbilt in Saturday's second round as they will begin play in the second wave off the back nine beginning at 7:50 a.m. CDT.
