BATON ROUGE -- Notre Dame defeated No. 11 LSU, 7-1, Sunday to snap the Tigers' eight-game win streak.

LSU (13-3) will have another crack at the Irish (7-5) Monday at 6:30 p.m. as freshman right-hander Aaron Nola (2-0) will take the mound for the Tigers.

Notre Dame's Sean Fitzgerald (2-1) picked up the victory Sunday after pitching eight innings and allowing six hits, one run (one earned), one walk and striking out four. Leftfielder Conor Biggio led the Irish with two hits and three RBIs.

LSU sophomore Kurt McCune (1-2) took the loss for LSU after working three innings and giving up six hits and five runs with one strikeout.

"It was one of those days when things didn't seem to go our way, and you have to credit Notre Dame for playing a great ball game," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. "We had won eight games in a row, and over the course of season, you're going to have days like this. The good news is we have an opportunity to come right back and play Monday night and try to rebound from a tough loss."

Reliever Joe Broussard pitched admirably for the Tigers and fired four innings, permitted two runs (one earned), three hits, one walk and he struck out one.

Catcher Ty Ross cranked out his second three-hit game of the season and center fielder Chris Sciambra added two more for LSU.

Notre Dame opened the scoring with three in the top of the third. Charlie Markson and Alex Robinson reached base on back-to-back singles to lead off the inning and advanced to scoring position on Jason McMurray's sacrifice bunt. Biggio plated both runners on a double to the right field gap.

Frank DeSico kept the inning going and sliced a single to right field, which moved Biggio to third. Eric Jagielo ripped a line drive that was caught in right by Rhymes, but Biggio advanced home on the sacrifice fly.

The Irish extended the lead in the top of the fourth. Trey Mancini led off the inning with a double to the right center gap. Joe Hudson drove Mancini in from second on a single to left.

Broussard entered the game and got Blaise Lezynski to ground out to second, but Hudson advanced to second. Markson grounded out to the right side and Hudson advanced to third. Robinson crushed a triple past the outstretched Sciambra in center to score Hudson. Broussard forced McMurray to fly out to right to end the inning.

Notre Dame added another run in the seventh. Markson led off the inning with a  single to right and advanced to third after consecutive groundouts to the right side. Biggio pushed a slow roller to Austin Nola at short, and beat out the play and moved to second on a throwing error.

Biggio proceeded to steal third and raced home on a wild pitch as DeSico was walked. The run extended the lead to 7-0.

LSU got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth. Ross crushed a one-out double down the left field line and moved to third on Sciambra's single through the right side of the infield. Left fielder Jared Foster drove home Ross on a double in the left field gap and Sciambra stopped at third.

The Tigers kept fighting all the way into the last frame. Nola reached first in the ninth inning after an error by the shortstop and moved to second on Hanover's single to center. Ross nudged a single to right to load the bases for Sciambra. However, Notre Dame reliever Dan Slania stranded the runners on base to end the game.
