BATON ROUGE - Six LSU football players and Offensive Line Coach Greg Studrawa helped out and read to children at the Celebrity Reading event at the Mall of Louisiana on Sunday.

Coach Studrawa, Sam Montgomery, Barkevious Mingo, Chris Davenport, Craig Loston, Evan Washington and Alex Russian took time out of off-season workouts to read to kids for a few hours. The group was joined by New Orleans Saints and former LSU defensive back Randall Gay who stopped by in support of the event.

The players were glad to be a part of kicking off Read Across America Day, which is scheduled for Wednesday March 3rd.

"I enjoyed being a part of Read Across America," Loston said. "It was a fun thing to do for the kids, and it's always great to see smile out there and be around happy people."

This weekend's event was put on by the Louisiana Association of Educators.

"It was great to give back to the community and work with the children," Davenport said. "I think it's very important to encourage them not to take education for granted."
